Isle of Wight electricians
Commercial EICR and periodic inspection
Electrical inspection and testing for businesses, landlords of commercial premises and HMOs, with a clear report your insurer and fire risk assessor can use.
- No travel charge on the Island
- 2 year workmanship guarantee
- Revised price before any work starts
What it is
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is an inspection and test of the fixed wiring in a building. Anything that needs attention is coded C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous), C3 (improvement recommended) or FI (further investigation needed).
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers to maintain electrical systems so as to prevent danger, and a periodic inspection is the usual way to show it.
When you need it
- Your insurer or fire risk assessor asks for a current report
- You are buying, selling or taking a lease on premises
- You let an HMO or commercial premises
- The date on your last report has passed
What our standard job covers
Your estimate spells out exactly what your job includes, so you can check it before you accept.
- Inspection and testing of the fixed electrical installation
- A written report with any observations coded
- A price for any remedial work, for you to approve
What can change the price
Your estimate itemises the labour, the materials, the certification and any waste removal, so you can see how the total is made up before you accept it. These are the things that most often affect it:
- The size of the premises and the number of consumer units and circuits
- Access, and whether the work has to be done out of hours
- Three phase supplies and larger installations
Your certificate
You receive an Electrical Installation Condition Report. Remedial work is priced separately, and you receive the right certificate for that work when it is done.
Can it be priced online?
We start online with details of the premises and photos of each consumer unit. Commercial quotes are always priced by Ashton within 2 working days.
No surprises
If anything differs from your description, you get a revised price before any work starts, and if you decide not to go ahead we refund your deposit in full.
HMOs and rented property
Houses in multiple occupation let privately are covered by the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, which require an inspection at least every five years. For a single let home, see landlord certificates.

Commercial EICR: questions
How often do commercial premises need an EICR?
The inspector sets the date of the next inspection on the report, based on the type of premises and the condition of the installation.
Can you inspect out of hours?
Tell us in the questions when the premises are free and we will tell you what we can offer.
What happens if the report finds problems?
We price the remedial work for you to approve, and issue the right certificate when it is done.
